Welcome to Dovrefjell Lodge

Dovrefjell Lodge has a history stretching back to the 1930s — originally a traditional Norwegian mountain dairy farm, or seter, where animals from a farm in Dovre spent their summers high in the mountains. Sitting right on the old Pilgrim Road and King's Road, it was a natural stopping point for travellers looking for rest and a meal.

From seter to lodge

By the mid-1970s, the cattle drives had ended and the farm gradually transformed into a place for campers, cabin guests, and hikers passing through.

A new chapter - Dovrefjell Lodge today

In March 2020, Lina and Jo André from Bergen took over with a clear vision — and despite two years of lockdowns, they made it their own. The old café became a newly renovated restaurant with a private lounge. Several cabins were restored to reflect the warmth of a traditional Norwegian mountain cabin and accommodation. And in 2023, the place got its new name: Dovrefjell Lodge.

The renewal is still ongoing — there are plenty of exciting ideas for what comes next.

Take a piece of Dovrefjell home

The photographs you'll find throughout the lodge are no coincidence.

Lina Kayser, one of the owners, is a professional wildlife photographer based right here in Dovrefjell. Her images of musk oxen, reindeer and the Norwegian wilderness hang in every room — and if one catches your eye, you can take it home. Prints are available in her online store.
